The Giant’s Portal
Chapter I: Shelter of Bones
The rain hammered down like hammered steel upon the corpse of the fire giant, each droplet sizzling against the creature’s still-smoldering hide. Blood mixed with mountain runoff, creating crimson rivulets that carved through the rocky soil like veins of spilled wine. The acrid stench of burnt flesh and ozone hung heavy in the air, testament to the fierce battle that had just concluded.
Through the curtain of rain emerged a rider—a figure wreathed in steel and shadow, his mount’s hooves striking sparks from the slick stone. The newcomer’s tiefling heritage was unmistakable: horns jutting from his brow like obsidian daggers, eyes that gleamed with infernal amber in the storm’s gloom. His armor bore the scars of recent violence, and there was a wildness about him that spoke of bridges burned and oaths broken.
“Name’s Ash,” he called out over the thunder, his voice rough as grinding stone. “Was a city guard till I showed my commanding officer the business end of my gauntlet. Now I’m looking for a different kind of trouble.” His grin was sharp enough to cut glass.
The party, weary from their pursuit of the giant, welcomed this unexpected ally. Together, they sought shelter from the merciless storm in a cave that reeked of ancient death—a charnel house where giants had dragged their kills for generations. The walls wept with moisture, and the floor crunched underfoot with a carpet of bones both old and fresh. Mice skittered between femurs the size of tree trunks, while spiders as large as dinner plates spun their webs in eye sockets that once held fury and flame.
Ipid sat apart from the others, a statue of brooding silence. Smoke billowed from his eyes like incense from a cursed altar, and when the others called his name, he might as well have been carved from the mountain stone itself. No word passed his lips, no flicker of recognition crossed his features. Something had changed in him during their battles with the giants—something that set the others’ teeth on edge.
They kindled a small fire from the detritus of ages, and the flames licked hungrily at ancient bone meal, sending up acrid smoke that made their eyes water and their throats burn. Yet it was warmth, precious as gold in this forsaken place, and they huddled around it like survivors of a shipwreck.
The tea they brewed tasted of ash and memory, but it warmed their bellies and lifted their spirits. Outside, the storm raged with primal fury, as if the very mountains sought to shake loose these mortal intruders from their heights.
Chapter II: The Envoy of Ice
Dawn brought no mercy—only the cruel kiss of mountain winter. Snow fell in thick curtains, transforming the world into a realm of white silence broken only by the party’s labored breathing and the steady crunch-crunch of their passage through the drifts. The horses’ breath steamed like dragon’s smoke, and ice crystals formed in beards and on eyebrows within minutes of exposure.
Tom, the eldest among them, had discovered new depths to his magical gift. His hands glowed with gentle warmth as he pressed them to the horses’ flanks, whispering words of comfort in the old tongue. The beasts nickered gratefully, their coats steaming as supernatural heat drove the killing cold from their bones.
But comfort was fleeting in this harsh realm. From somewhere ahead came sounds that made veteran warriors pause—the grinding of stone against stone, the bass rumble of voices that could shake avalanches loose from cliffsides. Giant voices, speaking in tongues older than the kingdoms below.
The first they met was Grumble, and never was creature more aptly named. Standing twice the height of a man and broad as a barn door, his skin was the deep blue of winter twilight, marked with ritual scars that told stories of a hundred battles. Frost clung to his beard like diamonds, and his breath came in clouds that would have filled a tavern common room.
Yet there was something almost gentle in his massive features as Ash stepped forward, speaking in the giants’ tongue with surprising fluency. The conversation that followed painted a grim picture indeed.
“Fire giants,” Grumble rumbled, his voice like distant thunder. “From the burning peaks beyond the eastern passes. They come with portal-magic, seeking to plant their cursed gateways in our sacred grounds. Already they work their foul sorcery at three sites. If they succeed…” The giant’s expression darkened like a storm front. “Armies will pour through. Armies that will burn the world below to cinders.”
The implications hit like a physical blow. Portal magic of such magnitude required immense preparation, vast expenditures of arcane energy, and artifacts of terrible power. If the fire giants succeeded in establishing permanent gateways, they could bypass all natural defenses and strike at the heart of civilization itself.
Grumble’s massive hands clenched into fists that could shatter boulders. Despite his obvious fear—for even frost giants knew to respect the destructive power of their flame-wreathed cousins—he pledged his aid. “My people will not suffer this desecration,” he growled. “Though we walk into the very fires of the underworld.”
Even as they spoke, the signs of arcane working became apparent. A grinding sound echoed through the peaks—the sound of crystals being ground and shaped, of magical energies being focused and channeled. Above them, the very clouds reflected an ominous red glow, as if the sky itself burned with infernal light.
Time was running short.
Chapter III: The First Portal
The first site of power lay in a natural amphitheater carved from the living rock by eons of wind and weather. Here, the fire giants had begun their work in earnest. Dark red crystals, each one the size of a man’s torso, lay arranged in precise geometric patterns that hurt the eyes to look upon. Ancient statues—predating any human civilization—had been dragged from their resting places and arranged as focal points for the portal magic.
Three fire giants labored at their dark craft, their bodies wreathed in flames that would have reduced mortal flesh to ash in seconds. Their armor was black as midnight, inscribed with runes that seemed to writhe and shift when viewed directly. The very air around them shimmered with heat distortion, and the stone beneath their feet glowed cherry-red.
But something else commanded attention—something that made the party’s blood run cold. Ipid stood at the edge of the ritual circle, and the smoke that had leaked from his eyes now blazed like cold starfire. Dark blue flames wreathed his form, and when he moved, it was with the fluid grace of something that was no longer entirely human.
Combat erupted with the suddenness of lightning.
Ash’s voice rang out in words of power, and ice knives materialized from the frigid air—crystalline blades that struck the giants’ molten armor with explosions of steam and fury. The metal, superheated by their inner fires, began to run like water under Aldrich’s acid magic, creating rivers of molten steel that carved smoking channels in the stone.
Scorn’s voice rose in dissonant harmony, words that were not meant for mortal throats to speak. The sound burrowed into the giants’ minds like parasitic worms, driving them to flee their own positions in mindless terror. But Ipid—or the thing that wore Ipid’s face—fought with the fury of a force of nature unleashed.
His chest was laid open by a giant’s blade, revealing ribs and organs that should have meant death. Instead, blue fire poured from the wound like liquid starlight, and he laughed—a sound like breaking glass and winter wind. His mortal limitations had been cast aside like discarded clothing.
When the last giant fell, its death cry echoing through the peaks, they found Ipid whole once more. The grievous wounds were gone as if they had never been, though the blue flames continued to dance across his skin like living tattoos. Whatever power had claimed him, it had remade him in its own image.
Aldrich’s careful examination revealed the truth that chilled them more than any mountain wind—this was merely the first of three required sites. Even now, the second portal neared completion.
Chapter IV: The Crucible of War
The second site sprawled across a broader plateau, and here the fire giants had made more progress. The completed summoning circle pulsed with malevolent energy, casting crimson shadows that writhed like living things. The portal itself was a wound in reality—a gateway that showed glimpses of burning mountains and armies that numbered in the thousands.
But the defenders were formidable. A fire giant commander directed the defense, his voice booming orders that echoed off the canyon walls. Two cyclopes flanked him, their single eyes burning with primitive fury, while four hill giants formed a living wall of muscle and bone. The very air shimmered with heat distortion and the promise of violence.
The party’s response was poetry written in destruction.
Starling took to the sky on wings of shadow, her form silhouetted against the burning portal. Her voice rose in arcane syllables, and darkness fell like a blanket across the battlefield—not the gentle darkness of night, but something deeper and more primal. Her Midnight Veil spell turned day to night, robbing the giants of sight and sowing confusion in their ranks.
Scorn’s magic followed like a hunting wolf, weaving between the giants and settling into their bones. The slow spell transformed mighty warriors into lumbering targets, their movements becoming sluggish as if they fought through thick honey. Aldrich’s acid sphere followed, a ball of corrosive death that carved through armor and flesh with equal ease.
The coordinated assault shattered the giants’ formation before they could properly respond. But the true battle was yet to come.
Ash waded into combat with mortal strength alone, his booming blade attacks creating thunderclaps that shook snow from distant peaks. Each strike was accompanied by concussive force born of skill and fury rather than magic, yet still potent enough to crack armor and split bone. The frost giant allies fought with primal joy, their massive axes cleaving enemies in twain with wet, meaty sounds that would haunt lesser men’s dreams.
Starling’s vampire shades descended like hungry moths, draining life force and leaving withered husks in their wake. Her guiding bolt spells burned through a hill giant’s throat, the radiant energy cauterizing the wound even as it killed. Ipid continued his supernatural rampage, his laughter echoing across the battlefield as he carved through enemies with inhuman strength and speed.
When the last defender fell, the portal’s red glow began to flicker and die. Working with desperate haste, they scattered the precisely arranged crystals and toppled the focusing statues. The friendly frost giants joined in with childlike enthusiasm, hurling boulders at the remaining structures with accuracy that spoke of centuries of practice.
The portal collapsed with a sound like reality tearing, leaving only scorched stone and the lingering taste of ozone. The magical items they claimed from the fallen fire giant were treasures beyond price—rings of regeneration, belts of giant strength, boots that would carry their wearers across winter’s harshest terrain.
Epilogue: The Calm Between Storms
As the immediate danger passed, Ipid began to emerge from whatever divine possession had claimed him. The blue flames flickered and dimmed, though they did not entirely fade. He blinked as if waking from a dream, his eyes slowly returning to their natural color.
Ash, emboldened by his new strength, began catching boulders thrown by the playful frost giants—a feat that would have been impossible hours before. The giants laughed like children, delighting in this novel game with their small but mighty allies.
Two portals had been destroyed, their threat ended before armies could pour through to devastate the lands below. The alliance with the frost giants had proven invaluable, forged in battle and tempered by shared purpose. The party had grown stronger, both in magical power and in their bonds to one another.
But questions remained like shadows at the edge of firelight. What force had transformed Ipid, and would it claim him again? Were there other portal sites still under construction? And what greater purpose drove the fire giants to such desperate measures?
The mountain winds carried no answers, only the promise of adventures yet to come. In the distance, other peaks caught the dying light like beacons, and somewhere among them, enemies still plotted in shadow and flame.
The heroes had won this battle, but the war for the world’s fate had only just begun.

Transcript
Alright, we’re going to get started with that recap. So, sparting off, last session, you were traveling, and you had reached the city of Melrose, and it was under siege by giants. You had received a quest from them to go into the mountains and find the source of the siege and stop it. What they knew of immediately was a cyclops in the mountains and something further within. You went to fight the cyclops, slayed it, and returned. Then, heading up further into the mountains, you encountered an enclave of giants hidden in a carve-out of the mountains, a small base. Fought scores of ogres and trolls, and you charmed a fire giant. You then began going onwards up the mountain. After, though, you realized the fire giant was heading down towards Melrose, where it would wreak havoc. You rode hard to catch up with it and slayed it in the road. And that’s where we’re at now. As you’re standing in the rain next to the corpse of the fire giant, you see an armored tiefling riding up the road hard on a horse. And Justin, that is where you come in. I’m coming from the north, you said. You’re riding up from the north, yeah. Okay. So you’re riding south, which is into the mountains. Okay. I sort of slow down to a gallop as I see the new people. Hello? Hell, who goes there? My name is Ash. Where are you guys headed to? Well, that depends on who’s asking. Well, real quick, what’s at the north of us? You’re heading into the mountains. So, what’s north of you is Melrose, the city that’s being attacked by giants. That’s where you’re headed from. And you’re heading up into the mountains to go fight the giants. Okay, apologies. Hello. Can you hear me? Yes. Hi. Hey, sorry, I’m late. It’s all right. Glad you can make it. So I’m going to go fight some giants. I thought there was a fight, and I’m going to go fight some things. Oh, fighting. Well, for the moment, we’ve run all out of giants. I was hoping someone would bring more. Oh, shit. Don’t worry. We know where there are more of them. At least I think. Where’s that at? Scorn points up the mountain. That way. All right. Well, if you’re willing to take on one more traveler, I’d be happy to help out kill some giants. As you’re standing there in the rain, you see Ipet’s eyes are billowing with smoke, and he stands silently over the fire giant. The rain falls as you stand in the middle of the road, and the path leading ahead up the mountain. We should go back and rest in that cave that we found. I don’t think I could go another step. Oh. Well, now that’s not a bad idea. Just for the night, then we can get going early. Get us out of this rain, too. True. I think it’ll hit the horses. Sure, okay. All right. Okay, just catching up. I guess we’re still after killing that giant. Yes. Cool. And a tiefling in armor has just ridden up and joined you. Okay. Go ahead. As you head up the mountain, the rain falls heavily, and you find the large stone doors where you had fought the many giants within. I mean, there’s going to be lots of bodies here. Are you okay with staying here like that? Yeah, I’ll be fine. Do you guys do all this? Yes. Oh, a lot of these are previous victims of the giants. The fresh ones are ours. Oh, okay. And yeah, you look around and there’s quite a few fresh ones. As you walk in the halls, it smells of rot and bone dust. It is well lit, and there are many barrels of provisions here. Hmm. This is what kind of provisions. Mostly you find dry grain and a few casks of wine. Ah, maybe that’s going to explore all this area before. Yes. So I guess we could just find a corpseless corner to sleep in for the night. Doesn’t appear to be one. Yeah. Place is a real mess. Yeah. As you’re stepping, you can’t seem to avoid stepping on bones, as every so often you hear a nasty crunch underfoot as you push through them. Oh, damn. Well.
I suppose we can stay here, but it’s not going to be pleasant. No. I’m sure Aldric loves it. Well, the bones, for sure, yeah. There’s lots of skulls. You don’t want any of these? Maybe before we go. But, you know, maybe not to sleep next to them, though. I see. But don’t you sleep next to them? They stay in your pack, right? But they do stay in my pack, yeah. I mean, at least I can’t see them, maybe. That’s what understandable. As the rain falls outside, you see mice scurrying through the corners, and you hear the small movements of pests inside. Kind of smells in here, doesn’t it? Yeah. So, uh. So, what’s your name? Uh, you can call me Ash. Ash. Nice to meet you. Good name. Thank you. You’re a traveler on the way here? Well, I was a city guard. And then they don’t look too highly of it if you beat the shit out of your commanding officer, so I don’t do that anymore. Oh, so I was looking for adventure, really. Change of scenery. Okay. Yeah, you could say that. I don’t know. What do you think? This corner by the door is this the best one? Smells of troll. Smells of dead troll. Over here doesn’t look terrible. Gorn points over this way. I mean, there’s a fairly large spot on the floor with only a few bones. Yeah, maybe this far. I’ll take it. Yeah, we can clean it. Maybe I can use gust. I’ll use gust to try and blow away some of the bones. Let’s see how that goes. As you use gust, you stir up about an inch of dust off the floor and it billows around. Oh, I didn’t think about that part. Oh no. The bone dust churns through the air, filling the air with a bit of smoke-like debris as it slowly settles. Well, I won’t do that again. Yeah, I think I’ll maybe not use Thunder Wave to clear a space either. Be a lot worse. Yeah. We could create a fire if you want. You want to gather all these things up and put them and make a fire? Oh. I don’t know. It might smell even worse. I think it will smell even worse. Yeah, well, I think nothing we can do then. Just go to sleep. Just have to endure. As you sit within there, you hear rats and mice scurrying. You see a large spider the size of your hand crawling through one pile to the next as the bone dust slowly settles on top of your packs and things what’s Ipid doing at this point? You see Ipid sitting in the corner smoke rising from his eyes That’s not normal Yeah, but are you okay? He doesn’t respond wave a hand in front of his face Ipid hello well he’s checked out okay as you normally like this glimmer of fire in his eyes in his eyes right okay I mean we did do a lot of fighting so maybe something happened there quite literally burnt out yeah yeah I think just give him a minute a minute and he’ll be fine is he is he wounded no all right is anyone wounded are we all okay I think so you’re all in fairly good shape yes we did quite well yeah we did quite well that fire giant was remember I killed that guy I killed him with a with a staff yep yeah um maybe I’m misremembering it but uh Aldric did you have you got that uh Leomit’s tiny hut spell no that was Starling now oh you’ve got that okay
That might be the way to go here. If you can still cast it, I know we’re low on. We’re low on spells. Let me see if it’s available to me. I think it’s a ritual spell, so if it’s a ritual and you’ve got it prepared, you can cast it without using a spell slot. As you sit, you see more vermin scattering across the ground. You hear water dripping from the corner somewhere, and the smell waves over you. Afraid I can’t cast it. Okay. We’re going to have to just. Oh, you know what? I can put you to sleep. I’ll use the cantrip to create a bonfire. As small as possible, really. And I’m going to make some tea. And I’ll say maybe some tea will at least get a bit of that smell in there. And I’ll try to waft the tea as much as I can. As you make the tea over the bonfire, you come to realize there’s a unique smell to burning bone dust. Quite like when you catch hair on fire. I think it’s an improvement. Maybe this isn’t the best place to stay. I don’t know. I put it there if you can see that. Yeah. You new teethling, is there anything you can do to make our sleeping conditions more pleasant? Nope. I beat the shit out of things. I don’t cast many spells. Because that’s fun. Okay. I’ll just remind me nothing away. Remind me not to annoy the new guy. You got nothing to worry about. As the smoke from the bone dust accumulates along the ceiling, you begin to get ready to sleep. Alright, I’ll put the fire out. As the fire burns out, you see the burning of coals of the bones shining with a deep red light. At least it’s dry. Outside, you hear the rain soften, till eventually you can’t hear rain falling anymore. Instead, the sounds slowly go softer as it gets colder and colder, and snow falls. And is Tom outside? No, Tom is inside with you guys. Okay. He’s taking care of the horses. He doesn’t seem to be too bothered by the smell. However, you see, he is kicking bones out of the way and clearing out a spot for the horses. Yeah, I think that gives me comfort as I fall asleep. This kind of knowing Tom’s taking care of stuff. I’m going to take a long rest then. Can we take a long rest? Yes. Everyone take a long rest. Yeah, I used all my big spells, so I need them back. Okay, I am fully rested. Good morning. As you wake up, you smell the lingering scent of burning bone dust, charred remains, and burnt hair. Oh. Ick. Yeah. Let’s get out of here. Where do we need to go now? Up the mountain. Alright. Let’s go. This place. No. Too many bones. Don’t like it. Too many bones. Too many bones. Everyone’s going to come up with a really cool song. As you go outside, there is snow falling, collecting under the shrubbery as your path continues up the mountain. Is it cold? It is. You can see your breath. You can see the snow beginning to melt just barely. As you’re walking up the road, you crunch over ice that is frozen over it. And you see Tom chanting a spell near the horses. And they don’t seem to be as bothered by the cold as you are. He did this last time. Scorn, have you noticed that Tom can do a bit of magic now? I have, and he said something about making some kind of warlock pact. I mean, that’s what you do, right? That’s what Blueberry did. Is it that easy?
I figure it’s something you learned from her. I don’t know. Yeah, right. Yeah, they were quite close for a while. Maybe. Yeah, they got along well. She would be worried. And you see boulders rolling down the side with a cascade of shale, and you hear the thunder of falling stone. Oh, are we in its path? Um, no. Okay, good. This place looks dangerous. Um, who wants to go first? We have to be careful of the shale. It’s gonna slide under the horses’ hoofs. Well, that won’t be good. I think we just keep down the middle, we should be okay. Should be. We’re just going to have to be careful. Oh, yeah. As you’re going up the road, you hear the sounds of giants walking. Yeah, so Ash, do you know those heavy footfalls up the hills? Have you got any experience with giants, Ash? I know they’ve hit hard, but I haven’t fought one personally. Not yet. I think maybe we’re about to soon. Excellent. Yeah, it could happen. As you’re walking on the path, you hear the crash of stone, and you see a giant with dark blue skin sliding down the mountain towards you, tearing up brush and boulders along its way. Is this a two-headed giant? No. Is this a frost giant? Yes. Oh dear. It stares you down and speaks in low, guttural tones. Anyone speak to it? I don’t. I don’t have the. I know, giant. Ash, as you hear it talking, it’s asking you of where you’re headed and whose side are you on? He’s asking where we’re headed and what side we’re on. Dave, that reminds me important to you guys. Yep. Are you on the side of the fire or the side of the quartz? Fire or quartz? I think you say quartz. Fire is what we’ve been fighting. We’ve been fighting fire ones. I say giant. We’ve been fighting. They’ve been fighting the fire ones. The giant looks at you, shaking its long blue hair. Its eyes cold and frozen. It speaks to you like the sound of falling stone you heard earlier. It’s an envoy of the quartz giants. There’s been invaders, fire giants who’ve brought many lesser giants along. They’ve been coming from mountains far, far away. They’ve been opening portals and invading, seeking the land, pillaging all there is. That tracks. So the fire giants have been fight killing these guys. That ain’t right. Yeah, they’re quite a nuisance. I asked the giant where the fire giants were last located. They lasted. There was last group of three of them further up the mountain preparing to summon more. They were carving a circle out of stone for permanent transfers. I relay that to the group or translate. Sounds like we ought to do something about that. Alright, maybe that’s why they’re getting so many numbers up here. Can you ask them, is there a quartz place? A quartz giant village? Yeah, village or base or something close to here. I asked the giant that. Is there a village or a quartz nearby? It looks at you for a long time. And I also say we mean no harm. We’re here to fight the firewoods. Up past where the fire ones are. It’s where the quartz live. They live high in the mountains where they cut themselves from the quartz that are exposed. I relate translate that. They’re further up the mountain beyond these fire giants. Seems like we need to take those three out in order to help this village. The quartz giants aren’t as resilient as the fire giants or the frost giants. They’re peaceful creatures with a knack for creation and magic. But they don’t know combat. Maybe you can tell them we were the ones that sent.
Has uh sent their bird back. Okay, see if that means anything to them. I translate that to giant to the giant, and then ask its name because we it’s kind of rude. It speaks to you a low, rumbling tone, a name that falls to the ground like gravel. There’s no good way to translate it into common. So, what are you gonna call the giant? Call him Grumble, because that’s what it sounded like. Grumble looks at you, all of you, and again it speaks, asking if you are willing to go and fight. Because if you are not, you should turn around now and head back down the mountain. Uh, old Aldric will create create some flames in his hands to kind of show that he’s got some magic he’s willing to use in the fight. The giant nods approvingly without saying anything, just raise his sword high into the air and shake it. I see that gesture from Ipid, and I sort of copy it, pull my uh, a solid black great sword with like a little hint of radiant light to it and do the almost the same thing. Scorn raises his walking stick high above his head and gives a shout in draconic amplified by Thaumaturgy. As your shout echoes down the mountain, the giant looks at you all and gestures to begin walking up. Well, this is it. Alright. Is there anything you want to get ready before we get up there? Can anyone make us a bit stronger or anything? See what I have? I could only do protection from good and evil, but I don’t think that will really help here. I don’t have much in the way of helping you guys just my attacks. Actually, does this Grumble guy does he look? Well, never mind. I was going to give him my great sword sort of as a defensive thing, my old one. But if he didn’t know how to use it, it’s kind of useless. His weapons far outclass that great sword. There’s no use for it. Nobody wants this thing. What happened? Why don’t you want it? It’s an old one. Not the one that I have now. Do you regularly try and give it to other people? Well, if they look defenseless, people’s got to defend himself. I’m going to. Can I say I’ve switched my spell? I didn’t actually switch my spell, but can I say I did that on my long rest? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I’m going to try out that troll spell this time. As you prepare, you see Grumble sharpening an axe large enough to cleave any one of you in half with one swing. Is he gonna help us, Ash? He or she? I think he’s. I think they’re just protecting their his sort of convoy people. I ask him if he’s gonna help or if he doesn’t want to, he doesn’t have to. But if he wants to, he can. Grumble looks to you and nods. You will be fighting. Oh, looks like he’s coming with guys. Fantastic. Excellent. Just going. Like the shattering of glass and the grinding of stone together. I don’t know if that’s a good sound or not. Can I do some kind of check to see if I know what that is? Or like Arcana. Arcana. That will be a twelve. Is it? You vaguely remember of a magical process that requires grinding many types of crystal while building a portal. Yeah. I think I know that is preparation for something massive coming through. We better get a move on, guys. I think they’re making some kind of portal or ritual or something. I can hear this sound that I kind of know about. And I know that many things are going. I should stop the ritual. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Oh, yes. Double time it. As you head up the mountain, you see Grumble keeping astride with you, almost keeping a step ahead. And they seem scared. You see their massive hands shaking as they hold their axe, their massive crystalline bow strung across their back, waiting. Is he a quartz giant? No. No. He’s a frost giant who works with the quartz giants. Okay. Do we know if the frost giants are good at fighting? Frost giants are excellent warriors, you do recall. I ask him what’s got him so nervous. Using my words carefully enough to piss off a frost giant. As he talks to you, he says, with his low, rumbling voice, that there are three of them, and he is not sure if he will be able to take them on. It will be a gruesome fight, no matter how it goes. Very true. But it’ll be a fun fight. There’s another frost giant waiting. Preparing. Further up the mountain. Friend or ally? An ally. But it will take them time to reach combat. I tell the group that there’s another frost giant waiting for us to join him. I think the sooner we put a stop to this ritual, the better. If they’re going to use that circle to summon reinforcements, we can’t let that happen, or we really won’t be able to handle them. Three is better than 20. As you proceed up the mountain, you hear the sound get louder and louder, and you begin to see dust in the air blowing down the mountain. Can we see it yet? Or how far away is that dust? That dust starts out. You can see it about a mile in the distance ahead. As you’re proceeding, you’ll have to decide. Will you be stealthy or will you charge right in? I say stealthy as close as we can get and sort of take him by surprise. What do you guys think? Dirk, do you have your armor on? Your armor. Yeah, Ash, what kind of armor are you wearing? Wearing mithril plate. It’s not going to hinder me at all. Oh, oh, okay. Yeah, that’s awesome. My commanding officer was a dick, but he has some good shit. Okay. And then there’s, well, yep, it’s not going to be stealthy, I don’t think. No. No, not going to happen. We should send Tom away again with the horses. And Grumble here. I don’t know if he can sneak up on anyone. Well, if you want, as soon as we get close to him, I can cast darkness all around them and sort of get him sort of confused and give us an advantage of getting close as we can to him. It’s 10 minutes, but they’ll easily move out of it, but it’ll at least give us a chance to get close. They’ll know there’s somebody around casting spells. Yeah. And we got three other spellcasters here that… Well, I know Alder could fireball them, even if they can’t see them, but for the rest of us, most of our spells require to see them. Yeah. I mean, most of my spells that I’ve learned through my years is just improving my sword a little bit and maybe a little poison, some darkness. That’s about it. Nothing wrong with that. Nah. The ground shakes as you see a light begin to shine from up the mountain. Alright, we gotta go. I think we gotta go. Maybe there’s no time for stealth. Maybe not. You see a bright red light being reflected off of the clouds above. What’s that? Aldrich says. How far away is it? It’s about half a mile now. Oh, yeah. Yeah, we need to go fast. Yeah. Just charge it in then, I guess. Yep. I’d like to cast Vigilant Blessing on Ash. Ooh, what does that do? Oh, cool. And when he gets close enough, which would be 120 feet, Scorn’s going to cast Dispel Magic. As you approach and you cast Dispel Magic, you see the light.
Shining clouds, the clouds go out and you hear the sounds of giants yelling. I’ll just mark off that slot. There we go. Wait, hold on. Are they fire giants? Yes. Hold on. That spell I did, I think it’s fire, isn’t it? Can I say I wasn’t so silly? I know that’s not going to be useful. I thought they were going to be. I thought they might have just been regular giants or ogre-like creatures. Can I change it one more time to whatever I knew ahead of time? Yes. So Aldrich had a vision of changing it to fire, and then he realized in his vision that it wouldn’t be. And have you rolled portent? I haven’t. So let me. Roll that before we start combat. Okay. So I’m trying to unprepare and prepare a thing. I’ve got something else I can use. Okay. This isn’t changing one spell. Let me roll that. Portant. Yeah, you can see that, right? Yep. Do you have any actions you want to take before combat starts? I think mirror image would be good. Yes. So there’s another spell slot gone. Yes, I’ve got mirror image active. Let me actually cast that. There we go. Okay, there it is. Ooh, I don’t know if you will allow this, but would I be able to have changed a cantrip out? Yes. Because I remember I changed one to firebolt, but Aldric would have realized that’s not going to help on his long rest. So I would like to change that back to the bell thing we did before. Told the dead? Told the dead. Yeah, he’s going to change it back to that one. Well, I think I would have to do that from DD Beyond, so I don’t know how that’s going to work. Change it on DD Beyond, and then I can update your character sheet real quick. Okay, cool, cool, cool. And then once we’re all finished with preparations, we’ll start combat now. As you enter. What? That’s fine. Never mind. Disregard. As you enter the area where you see the altar being built for transferring giants, you see piles of dark red crystals, and in the center where they’ve been grinding them, slowly filling up the middle. You see statues with the dark red crystals inlaid in them, each serving as a focus for the portal. There is snow on the ground, and the wind blows with a bit of sleet. As the air is growing colder, you see the frost giant preparing his axe, getting ready to run in, and you see Ipid. His eyes no longer smoking, but instead burning with a dark blue flame. I think DD Beyond is ready. Can I do some kind of cold air wraps around you? Yes. Some kind of insight check on Ipid’s blue eyes. Yes, roll some kind of check. Yeah. I don’t know what’s going on. Nine. You’re not sure what’s happening with Ipid. Yeah. You’ve never seen this before. I’m just kind of staring at him a bit. But yeah, obviously I don’t know what’s going on. So I’m just kind of looking at him in a worried kind of way. Keep glancing at him, seeing what he’s doing. Alright, your character sheet is updated. Now we’re going to start with combat. Can everyone please roll initiative? Can I get an advantage to that blessing? Yeah. Okay. We’re hurting. What happened there? That’s a disaster. Must be the cold. That’s what it is. Yeah. I didn’t do initiative. Didn’t do the advantage. So let me look here. Oh, there we go. You’re still doing better than almost everyone. Mm-hmm.
That’s like what did Ipid you’ll need to do Ipid’s initiative finally? Right. Well, there we go. Oh, that’s not letting me roll. That’s weird. Ipid’s got a plus eleven on initiative. Whoa. Not always, but for now. Alright. Hang on. Two plus five. Twenty-one. There’s my initiative. Took me forever to figure it out, and I still don’t think I did it right. Alright. The first thing you see as you begin facing off against the giants is Ipid taking a massive leap and then dashing straight towards one. Whoa. He stands ready to fight the giant, his eyes burning. And Ash, it is your turn. See. Go 30 feet. 30. Um. Guess I’ll start this party with cast and ice knife. If I can find it. There we go. At the one next to Ipid. 19. That hits. That hits. Sorry, I’m still trying to get used to Forge. Where’s the. On the spell ice knife, right underneath attack, there is damage. Heck. Not seeing it. I’ll share my screen. If you get into the chat, it will be there. Okay. Oh. There we go. Ouch. And I don’t think any other ice giants are 15 feet within that. So that’s my turn. He has to make his dexterity saving throw. Oops. And fails. So roll another 2d6 cold damage. Okay. That’s a little better. To start. Yeah. As you shoot the giant in the face with a spike of ice. Glares at you and swears and speaking curses you dare not utter in common. Will that be all for your turn? That it would be. Well, now it’s the fire giant’s turn. He attacks twice with his great sword. And he manages to hit Ipid only once. The once is enough for a lot of damage. Yeah. Oh, damn. I thought that was a six. It was a nine. Twenty points of damage. Twenty-seven points of damage. Jeez. Now you see the frost giant charge forward up next to Ash and draw its bow drawing back its massive great bow it fires twice Wow only hitting the giant once it’s enough to stagger it for a moment as you see the massive arrow pierce through the giant’s plate armor Holdrick it is your turn you see these massive giants standing over you their eyes burning steam rising off them as the sleet hits their hot armor yeah pretty terrifying stuff so far I’m gonna move up to behind Ash just behind and the frost giant there 25 feet going to cast a cold
Damage, chromatic orb, and I’m gonna make it a third level instead of a first level. So, cold damage, chromatic orb at the giant on the right-hand side that if it’s attacking to hit, yeah, oh no, your orb does not hit the giant 15 doesn’t hit. Oh, no, no, okay, I think that’s my turn. Or Eldrick starts to panic a bit. See one of the fire giants walk over to where there’s a pile of boulders, pick one up, and throw it straight at the frost giant. Uh-oh. Solid hit. You see the boulder go flying straight into the side of the frost giant’s head. Uh-oh. Holy. That was a good roll. Yeah. The frost giant glares, dust drifting away from its face as you see its helmet is slightly cracked. And scorn, it is your turn. Oh, yes. Well, I’ll say some encouraging words to Ash. See, can I move? Let’s see. I need to figure out how to move. Ash, you have a bardic inspiration. That’s my bonus action. Wait. And let’s see. D6. It’s a D8. D8. It is a D8. And I’ll move up here. No. I need to be able to see all of them. One, two, three. Yeah, I can see all of them right there. I’m going to cast slow, and I’ll see if I can get all these giants. Let me see. Slow. Cast spell. And. Okay. Here we go. Okay, I screwed that up. I did not. I couldn’t get that to drop where I wanted it to. I don’t know why. It needs to be up here. I think I can get all three of them. And that is a wisdom save for them. DC 15. Alright. Let me try that again. One of them moved. I can’t get them all. I can’t get all three of them. Yeah, you can. You just don’t have to do it straight on the grid. Uh-huh. Okay. If I can, I’d like to make the portent roll on one of them. Which one? The higher of my dice and the giant on the left. Oh. Okay. Try and get into fail. Well, looks like all three of them succeeded. No, one failed, and then. Okay. So the one on the left is under the effect of slow. Okay. And I have some movement left, and I’m going over here. Starling, it is your turn. You have seen giants attacking viciously. And you hear the rumbling of stone. I’m going to move up as close as I can. Let’s see. How do I get the measuring tool? On the left, you can go down where on your token controls. The third one down should be a ruler-looking thing. And you click on that and you can measure distance. Awesome. Sweet. Okay. He’s just out of range for Ray of Frost. What else do I have? Oh. No, he’s just barely in range. Okay. Because you were measuring kind of off, off a straight line. If you measure straight from you to him, he’s just barely in 60 feet. Got it. Alright, so we’re going to hit him with Ray of Frost. 18. That hits. Okay, awesome. And yes. Oh, shoot, I rolled it again. I apologize. That would have been great. Damage. Normal. Ooh, that’s not too bad. Well, that’s not bad at all. Well, then that’s my turn. Do we get any sense that the cold is affecting them any better than the usual way?
You don’t. It seems to be doing normal damage to them as it quickly steams away from their bodies. Yeah. Alright. You see one of the giants walk into the middle of the altar, pick a stone up from the construction, and throw it at the frost giant. Oh, dear. Again, the frost giant is struck in the chest. A little bit better. In the distance, you hear the rumbling of someone very large, running very fast. And you see Ipid, his eyes burning. You watch as he casts compel duel on one of the giants. And the giant fails. And Ipid, not wasting a moment, immediately begins attacking. You see him swing twice, but only catch the giant once. And Ash, it is your turn. I can’t get into melee, can I? Seems like I can barely get to melee. Yeah. He said, yeah, I can. Yeah. Okay. That’s not going to be it. Let’s see what I got. I’m going to use one of my spell slots that I have saved of magic missile. It’s a first level. That’s what I’m going to do with the spell ring. Because I have it stored in there. Let’s see. Magic missile. Okay. And which one are you targeting? The one closest to me. Alright. And you have to roll damage for magic missile three times. Okay. So, what is that? Nine? Yes. And let’s see. That’s it. That’s all I got. You see the fire giant raise his sword and begin swinging viciously at Ipid. I’ve been rolling really well. He manages to hit Ipid once. God dang. You see Ipid’s chest plate cave in as he still stands and keeps fighting the fire giant. See the frost giant run up with alongside Ash and begin attacking with its axe. There we go. You hear the war cry of the frost giant and storm. Oh, Ash, you feel bolstered and bold in your fight. The ground rumbles as you hear something coming from down the mountain. And Aldrich, it is your turn. Okay. He sees that the cold damage is not really doing anything. He knows that there’s no fire damage. I’m going to try and cast this spell that’s called Vitriolic Sphere. But it doesn’t have an option to do the. I don’t understand. To do the place the template or whatever. How does it work? All it says is give me the button save or secondary acid damage. It doesn’t have like place template or whatever. So cast the spell. Am I clicking the wrong part of it? There is no button that says cast spell, so shall this save. Oh, yes, because it sticks around. Okay. I just didn’t want to click that and have to.
Place the template. Right. So I don’t think I can get all of them. So I’m going to try and get the two on the left. That’s good. Probably. Probably trying as far down as possible because if that giant on the left is coming down, I want him to try and stay in that area as long as possible. So somewhere about there. And they have to make dexterity saving throws. And the one that slowed, well, hopefully. I would also like to use my other portent, if possible, to make him fail. Do you want the one on the left to fail? The right. Or the one on the right. The right. Because the one on the left is slow, so he’ll be a little bit. It takes it a minus two. Yeah. Yeah. Nice. Alright, go ahead and roll damage. Alright. And D4, god damn. Jeez. That’s 27. Nice. As you see the acid splashing, you see the giant’s armor slowly melting as you see the steel dripping off their bodies. Yeah, I would like to move as well, rushing towards Ipid as fast as I can. 30 feet that way. Alright. If it’s looking rough, right? Probably. You see his blood seeping through his armor. And as it falls through the cracks into the snow, it begins to burn on the ground. With a bright blue flame. Oh, dear. I do have a bonus action, prayer of healing flame I’d like to use if I can still do that. Yes. It is a spell, though, but I think we said it was okay last time. Yes, because it’s a bonus action. Yeah. So you can cast two spells, but one has to be an action and one has to be a bonus action. I thought it was you had to. I thought it was one of them could only be a tent trip. Is that not a thing? No. Okay, fine. That’s an old rule from a previous edition that a lot of people carry forward. Well, yeah. The new rule is you only get one spell that uses a spell slot every turn. Yeah. Oh. My thing will use a spell slot. So maybe I can’t do that. Can we say I can do it? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. As long as it’s still a bonus action. It is a bonus action. Yeah, I think you were being kind last time. Yeah, I like that rule. I like that rule. So I can choose of the six creatures of choice. So I will choose the frost giant and Ipid to heal. And I think everyone else is a fool anyway. So they get eight points back. Oh, gosh, not much. But hopefully better than nothing. I have 18 temporary hit points. Yes, that’s from the frost giant. Oh, shit. Aldrich. You see one of the giants you splash with the acid come walking forwards. It trudges through the acid before tearing out a chunk of stone from the altar and hurling it at you. He’s a half movement now. Double hit. That’s going to hurt. Oh. Aldric, you feel all breath being knocked out of your lungs and you feel your ribs breaking as a boulder comes crashing into your side. Ow. Scorn, it’s your turn. Yeah, time to have some more fun with these guys. Aldric, can you roll 5d4 real quick for the acid damage on that other giant? Yep. Thank you. And Scorn. Grab you. Yeah, I’m going to. I’m going to poke my head out here and cast dissonant whispers on the giant in the middle. And see if we can’t, you know, trick him into doing something dumb. So the damage is not bad. He’s got to make a DC-15 wisdom save. Oof. Oh, that’s good. So he takes 14 psychic damage and uses his reaction to.
Run away from scorn. Hope this will give the frost giant and ash opportunity attacks on him. I wasn’t in melee. Yeah, he’s five feet out of range. Oh, I thought you got into melee with him. Okay, well, the frost giant was in melee with him, so we’ll throw him another attack. And it’s good. Ooh, that damn. That was a good one. You see the frost giant swing his axe, cleaving deep into the fleeing fire giant’s shoulder. And I’ll throw a bardic inspiration to Aldric and tell him to stop letting them smash him with rocks. Starling, it’s your turn. This thing’s hurt. And I’m moving. I’m moving back over here. Aldric. All right. Yeah, Starling. It’s your turn. I see something here. Yeah, I gotta swap back over to token control. Well, I’m not moving. Hold on. You might be in measure. Okay. There we go. Ray, you’re gonna move up. See, how bad is Ibid looking? Is he looking any better? He looks almost dead on his feet. Okay. We’re gonna help Ibid. He frankly looks like he’s possessed. And that’s the only reason he’s still alive. Okay, Cure Winds is touch. Can’t do that. I cast. I’m gonna go ahead and do Guiding Bolt. You could she do dash. I could, but I’d lose an action. I’d still have to. Yeah. Isn’t Healing Word a bonus action? I don’t have Healing Word. I have Here Wounds. Oh, I see. Yeah. Hello? Okay. That does not hit. So that is my turn. You see the fire giant that had fled turn. Its eyes burning. It turns, takes a few steps forward, and throws a boulder right at Scorn. Oh, I’m over here behind his statue. He’s going to try and push through the statue. You get a plus two bonus to AC. Okay. Nice one. I think I made him mad. A little bit. Oh, he throws the boulder and it shatters against the statue. And you see the statue fall and crumble in front of you. And immediately you see Ibid holding his sword, his eyes burning with a dark blue flame. He attacks once and misses. Attacks again and misses even worse. You see him flailing against this giant. And Ash, it is your turn. Can I reach? I don’t think I can reach that one, so I’m just going to go to the middle one. Yeah, we’ll go right there. Hang on. That’s not letting me move for some reason. Are you in measure mode? I am. I thought I. How do I click out of it? On the left, if you look to the tokens, there’s a little box at the top. There we go. All right. And then I’m going to cast Booming Blade on my sword and attack with the sword. That hits. Alright, so. Damage. 22 and the Booming Blade. Ooh. 22. Pretty good. Yay. I can find it. And there’s Booming Blade. It should be 2d8. That’s for movement. I had to read it like three times. So if he moves five feet in any direction willingly, then it’s another 2d8. I had to read it like three times to understand it. Oh, 2D. Yeah, okay. Yeah, thunder damage because it’s a cantrip. It levels up with you. That’s right. Okay, so there’s the other one.
And for shits and giggles, I’m just gonna swing again with my sword. You see the giant drop to one knee, his head coming close. Attack with advantage. Roll damage. Roll the damage. Alright, the fire giant is kneeling in front of you as you make your final strike. How do you kill it? Chop his fucking head off. As you decapitate the fire giant, its corpse falls in front of you. Its head rolls into the center of where the portal is being built, and flames come gushing out of its neck. And that’ll be my turn. You see the fire giant standing over Ipid and swing again with his sword. Oh no! That was almost the two. Uh-oh. You watch as the fire giant cuts down into Ipid. He’s cut through Ipid’s chest, his arm almost falling off. And he is still standing and still holding his sword. You see dark blue flames pouring out of his body that’s been cleaved open. Oh my god. And he attacks again. Oh dear. You see him cut again deep into Ipid, stabbing him through the chest. And more flames come pouring out of Ipid, pooling in the ground at his feet and rolling down the hill, slowly trickling, igniting in its path. And you see the frost giant walk forward. It pulls up its axe. Swings. Of two swings, it hits it with one. And you see the fire giant stagger backwards under the weight of the axe. And Aldrich, it is your turn. He’s going to rush towards Ipid, totally worried, and then just be shocked at whatever he’s seeing in Ipid’s body. He doesn’t know what’s going on. Anyway, he’ll cast another chromatic orb at third level towards the giant next to Ipid. It’s going to be acid this time. And you hit? Damage. 5d8 for a third level. Did I say I’m casting a third level? Yeah. Yes. Yeah. Not too bad. Okay. 23. You see the acid hit the giant in the face, melting it. And you see its facial features dripping down off of it. And you see the bone exposed and angry burning eyes underneath. That’s my turn. See the fire giant come walking up to Ash and swing at him with the great sword. He’s still slowed, doesn’t he? Yes. He makes one hit on Ash. And Ash takes 24 damage as the sword hits his armor, denting it in, but not cutting through. And Scorn, it is your turn. Oh, yeah. Scorn’s looking at the wreckage of this statue. I mean, what used to be a statue? And he’s like, okay, y’all saw that. I didn’t do that. That was him. He points at the dead giant. I need to move. I’m having trouble moving. That’s better. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30. Yeah, I’m going over here. Hoping to get some cover. And am I close enough? Is that that giant still in the sphere of acid? Yes, but that only has an effect for one turn after. I am just close enough to hit this giant right here with another dissonant whispers. So that’s the plan. So, boom. We got that. We got damage. Oh, that’s really average. Okay. He’s got to make a DC-15 wisdom save. And he fails. Oh, look at him go.
He’s gonna go for a walk. He turns, and immediately the frost giant takes its moment to attack. Manages to hit him in the back as he turns to run. That hurts. And then you see Ibid barely standing, barely in one piece, as he swings at the giant. He flails, and you see the giant stagger forwards. Blood is dripping from the giant’s back as it slowly moves away. You have anything else on your turn, Squaren? I think we’re good. I’m going to give a bardic inspiration to Starling. Thank you. I need it. I think she’s going to need it. Yeah, okay. Alright, Starling, it is your turn. Okay, I’m just going to move straight up to Ipid. And Caskerwinds. Second level. Witness the darker side of healing as you watch a gap three inches across cut through his chest, knit itself together before your eyes. And the first thing you hear out of Ipid, since he had killed that fire giant last night, is laughter. That’s my turn. You watch as Ipid, still laughing, holds his great sword in one hand, cocks back his shoulder, and throws it straight through the giant’s back. He then runs up, pulls out his sword, and begins hacking away at it, laughing madly as he is thrashing around in the giant’s blood, mixing with his own, burning with a blue light. And Ash, it is your turn. Alright, so that worked the first time. I’m going to use Booming Blade again. And then I’ll swing with my Darklight Great Sword. I’m going to use that Bardic Inspiration. That probably didn’t work. No, does not hit. I will swing again. Dang. Also, does not hit. Second wind. Don’t use that. I’m hitting this motherfucker. Oh, God. Fuck me. Wow. That hurts. That hurts a lot. You watch as you swing again and again and again. But you are unable to penetrate the giant’s armor. That’s it. See the frost giant step over beside you. It looks down at you with a smile and attacks with its frost axe. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The giant laughs as it misses and then hits making contact. You hear it speaking to you. I thought we’d all be dead by this time as it cuts into the giant across from it. Naljerk, it is your turn. You see two dead giants, Ibid thrashing around in the blood of one, and a frost giant fighting another one that still stands. Alright, I move over towards the portal 25 feet that way. Or the remnants of the portal. I’m going to toll the dead on that guy. The DC 14 wisdom saving throw. Bales. Roll damage. It’s giving me 2d8, but since it’s damaged, should it be 2d12? Just do a manual roll of 2d12. Yeah. Yeah, 12 damage. You see the giant’s shoulders slump as a bit of its will goes out to fight. And that’s my turn. Fire giant swings first at Ash. And then at the frost giant. Oh, if he’s slowed, he’s only got one attack. Oh, you’re right. He’s still slowed. So he just misses. Oh, that was the slowdown. Oh.
It went from a one to a twenty. Scorn, it’s your turn. Yeah. Um one, two, three, four, five, uh, six. I’m still not quite in melee of him. How close am I to it? Is it yeah, that’s good. Yeah, you’re about ten feet. Uh-huh. Okay. Uh, I don’t know if I can get him with a thunder wave without hitting any friendlies. So, I’ll uh do Destinate Whispers one more time just to mess with him because it’s been working so well. Let’s see if we can’t go three for three here. There’s twelve points of wizum damage. Oh, he made it. He made it half damage, six psychic. And with my bonus action, I will use my tail to make an obscene gesture at him. And Starling, it is your turn. Okay. I’m going to walk all the way up to the giant and cast inflict wounds. I love that spell. Me too. And Baldwin. Great. Cast spell. And that’s going to be a DC-15 Constitution saving through. He makes the saving throw. He’s doing very well tonight. Okay. I’m just going to glance over my shoulder at Ipid just to see how he’s looking. Ipid’s body is completely covered in blue flame as he is thriving over the body of the dead giant, madly laughing as he’s cutting into it again and again. Oh my well, I guess we’ll deal with that later. That’s my turn. Oh, you still got to roll damage for inflict wounds. Oh, cool. You see another frost giant approaching, bow in hand. See it shoot twice at the fire giant, only hitting it once. You see frost curling around the fire giant, its flames slowly dying as it gets hit with the arrow in the chest. And Ash, it is your turn. Booming blade and swinging with my great sword again. There we go. Alright, how do you kill this one? Dab straight through the heart with the booming blade-like energy still, and it just blows up inside of his chest. You see this giant’s chestplate buckle outwards, and then it collapses onto its back. The air grows quiet as the snow slowly falls. All except for Ipid’s rabid laughter. Might need to go check on him. I want to cast calm emotions in Ipet’s general direction from a safe distance. You’ll see him slowly calm down, his laughter fading, and he goes back to silently standing, still completely covered in the burning blue flame. I look up at Grumble and sort of like present my fist as a fist bump, and say, well fought and giant. Looks down to you, well fought, and smacks your fist, almost breaking it. I smile. Well, that was fun. Yes and no. Yes, we’ve got the giants, but I am very worried about Ipet. What should we do about him? Well, I’m not sure what’s going on. I’m going to start running towards him. I’m going to start running towards him. As you approach Ipid, you feel massive divine energy pulsing through him. I’m going to cast. I’m going to run up to him and touch him. Cast cure wounds. As you go to cast cure wounds, you see not only has his flesh knitted back together perfectly, there’s a gap where his scars used to be where he was cut.
And the flesh has healed so perfectly that the old scars are gone. As you inspect the giants, all you find is armor far too large for you, swords you can’t pick up, and rocks that they throw at you. So, just so as I understand, I saw Ipid was already healed before I tried to heal him myself. Yes. Okay. I’ll run back to the group. He’s doing okay, actually. He’s surprisingly not wounded. I guess that’s good. Something in his eyes, though. Did you see the eyes? Yeah. I’m not really sure what he’s going through. I’ve never seen him like that. This is beyond me. Can I do a religion check to see if I understand what Ipet is experiencing? Yes. Okay. You’re aware that it’s an ancient god of some sort, but you don’t know what’s going on with him. Okay. Can I take a look at the portal area? Yes. What’s going on there? The stones and stuff. Do I see anything interesting? As you’re examining the stones, you find old giant runes carved throughout. Preparation for a portal to send massive amounts of armies through. This one, you remember from your studies, is just one of three that needs to be built in these mountains. I know there’s three. You know there’s three. Alright, I tell the group there might be more of these things. I’m going to cast detect magic to see if these statues are still active, like they could be easily repaired. And it’s a 30-foot sphere, so I’m hoping to see if I can find anything that’s going on with Ipid as well. That’s why I moved over here. There. As you sense the magic, you sense old giant magic in the stone, and you can sense the direction of other circle that is bound to it. Okay. There’s one nearby. There needs to be three completed for it to work, but it seems there is only one other that has been completed so far. I ask Aldric, you said there were three of them. Or supposed to be three of them? Yeah. I think I know the direction of one other one near here. I don’t understand if they need to all be completed for all the armies to come through, or if they can have like if they finished one, then maybe some of the guys can come through. I don’t understand it fully. Roll Arcana. Right. You’re not really sure. You know the armies can come through once all three are done, but you don’t know what will happen when only one is completed. And I get the sense that this one wasn’t completed. Or this one wasn’t completed. And I get the sense that there might be one that’s completed elsewhere. Yes. Right. Okay, so I’ll wander over to Ash and I’ll relay that information. Whatever I learned there. Seems like there could be one that’s completed and you know the direction. Yeah. We can possibly take out the second one. Do I get the sense it’s fairly close? It’s about three miles up the mountain off the path. I tell them that as well. The only problem is I used a lot of my stuff. And I don’t. I’m a tad low on spells myself. Same. You hear Grumble talking to you, Ash. More will come if we don’t leave soon.
Relay that more fire, more fire giants, he means. Yeah. No, only one more fire giant in the mountains now. But he has smaller helpers. Followers. Okay. What do you think? Should we try it? Can we take a short rest or something then? Yes, and we’ll take a 15-minute break here. Okay. Yeah, as we investigate the area and stuff. Let me see. I’ll see you back in 15. Alright. Oh, I’m going to auto-spend my HD, my hit dice. I’m damaged. Scorn. On short rest, how many spell slots do I recover? Do you know off by heart? If you’re still there. I don’t think you’re there. No. Oh, shit. Hey, as far as the wizard class, I would use Arcane Recovery to recover some stuff. And it says there’s a combined level equal to no more than half of your wizard level roundup. Yeah. So for seven, I’ll be getting four spell levels back. Yeah. Great. So I’ll just pop in those levels. So that’s a bit of a shame. Because I haven’t used any level three or level two yet. So I think I’ll just take my level four back. Can I do that? Yeah. Awesome. It says level five. Whenever you finish a short rest, you can study your spellbook and replace one of the level one plus wizard spell you have prepared. Yes. With another one. So for example, could I switch out Fireball for something else? Yes. Awesome. I’m going to try it. I’m going to switch it out for Sleepstorm. Oh, yeah. That’s a good one. I kind of wanted to do it for this fight, but I felt like I was asking for too many changes already. So it was like, maybe I should just leave it. How are you guys liking having the music? Like the music. Like it’s not bad. I have to control the volume myself, though, because I found it was really loud. Yeah, so the way it works is you just control the volume through barred AM in the Discord. So that way everyone has independent control so they can set it to what they want to. Because of that, the bass level is kind of loud, but it’s so you can adjust it to exactly where you want. And if you’re recording, will you be able to adjust the volume of that? So for my recordings, I’m just going to trim the music out entirely. Stop that. Hey. Okay. You don’t think it will sound better with the music? I think it would sound better with the music, but that comes into copyright issues and stuff like that. Oh, yeah. Where it’s like I have to get different licensing to use the music in a podcast episode than I do to just use it in a game. Yeah. So I just want to check in. How are you guys doing? What have you enjoyed? What would you like to see more of? I’m having a blast. Yeah, this has been fun. The combat’s been great. Yeah. Good. I am interested in Ipid’s situation as well. So I think it’s fun when things beyond the normal flow of the game. Yes. And I don’t know how much of it he is going to share, but after this session, I’m going to write Ipid just a little summary of what he experiences while he’s possessed. Excellent. I think I like things like that that are beyond the not the rules, but it seems like they’re beyond the normal. I don’t know. Goes a bit kind of wild out there. Like when I had that moment where I could walk into the fire. Like that was unexpected and kind of I don’t know how to describe it, but beyond like a normal or something. Yeah, they’re little moments that go beyond the scope of the game itself. And it helps elevate the magic of the game. Right. I mean, obviously, you probably can’t do that every single minute of the game. Yeah. But when it comes, sometimes I think that’s cool. Yeah. So, for example, Ipid, having this experience, I think it’s pretty cool. I will say that in three weeks, I probably won’t be here. I’m going to a cabin in Eastern Tennessee. Exciting. Just make sure you skip the date on the day you’re not going to be here so you don’t get charged. Yeah. I may be able to make the Sunday group, though. So I’ll be happy. Depending on what time we get back. Yeah, you can just go ahead and let me know. Well, did.
And since you already let me know in advance, if you can’t skip it and you don’t know until less than 24 hours, I’ll still go ahead and skip it for you. Okay. Have any of you guys had a chance to check out the stuff I’ve started on for the wiki? Not yet. Oh, not just yet. If you could post a link for that, I’ll be sure and look at it. In the Adventurers General, I have posted a couple links. Okay. I’ll pin those so they’re easy to find. Okay. If you guys are free like Sundays, we could always use another person. We’re having a blast. And we had a guy from Sweden. He’s absolutely addicted. This is his first time playing. Oh, cool. It’s awesome. He’s such a good dude. My real-life in-person DD group meets on Sundays. I’m kind of busy then. I think your Sunday is my Monday, so it’s not available for me. Oh, yeah, yeah, because you’re across the date line. Yeah. Where do you live at? I’m all the way in Asia in Taiwan. Oh, wow. So, yeah, this is the best time for me, I think. So he’s having breakfast. Yeah. Yeah, I just made some breakfast, quickly ate it. You know, this is the Sunday morning game. This is my Sunday morning game, yeah. I already got one. Where does everybody else live? I’m interested in things like that. Oh, I’m in Idaho right now. I know where you are. Straight state. I’m actually located in Louisiana. Oh, I’m sorry. Oh, ouch. I was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and I never want to step foot in Louisiana again. Fort Polk is different for sure. I’m not in that part of Louisiana. My wife needs to go to Louisiana. I’m in Kansas City. Kansas City. Everybody in the states knows where I was nine months ago when a hurricane went through Western North Carolina and devastated us. Yeah, that sucked. Two weeks without power, it sucked. Oh, man. But we’re fine. A lot of other people are not. Even to this day, people are still trying to get to their homes. Sad. Ouch. All right. You guys ready to pick back up? Sure, Tay. So as you’re standing amidst the bodies of the fire giants in the half-completed circle, the snow is starting to fall heavy and wet. It sticks to your clothes and weighs you down. It’s accumulating on the ground quickly, and you hear the howling of wind. I look at Grumble. I was like, you want to join us for the other group for the other summoning portal? Grumble looks at you. We can do another. What do you think, guys? You’re ready to knock out another one? I think the second one’s going to be more difficult than the first. But yeah, I’m ready. Well, we can take a short rest as we get closer and sort of recuperate a little bit. Oh. That was like a shit fight. Didn’t we all take a short rest already? Yeah. Just short rest. Oh, we did? Yeah. Yeah. I did not know that. I don’t know how to do this. You mean to do a short rest? Yeah, just a roll of dice. Well, there’s a short rest button. There’s a short rest button at the top of your character page. It looks like a four. Okay. It should do it for you. Gotcha. That’s it. I’m good now. Hey, I got my second wind pack. Or not my second one, my action search. All right. As you prepare, it seems the other frost giant will be joining you as well. Okay. That’s good. I’m going to go behind if it’s safe enough distance that he doesn’t suspect anything, maybe, but like kind of close enough that I can watch what he’s doing. Having calmed down from his fury, is just standing there in the snow. You see a little circle where around him it has melted from the flames that are covering his body. Yep. I know that. I observe. I guess we get the horses back or yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, get the horses back and keep on.
Going, yeah. Okay, as you go back, you see Tom ready, ready to go, and you see Ipid’s horse, its eyes burning with blue flame, too. Okay, oh my. When this is all done, we’ll have to have a talk with him about that. Ask him what’s going on. Uh-huh. Most definitely. Yeah. I had a question about ritual spells. Does the spell need to spell need to be marked as prepared in my list for to do a ritual on it? Can it be an unprepared spell? I just know the spell. Yeah. Yeah, I think a wizard can do that. Yeah, wizards can just any spell that’s in your spellbook you can cast as a ritual. Great. So it’s just something Scorn said earlier that I just wondered, can other classes maybe not do that? It depends on the class. Some classes have access to all the spells, some don’t. Okay, yeah, I just want to make sure I’m not doing the wrong thing. Because I think so far I’ve been casting. Warlock wouldn’t be able to do that. Okay. Cool. I just wanted to make sure I’m doing that. I don’t know how Eldridge Knight does their spells. If they switch them out or not. Eldritch Knight, I believe, follows wizard casting rules. But you also have only specific spells that you can cast. So you can’t cast ritual spells. Okay. Even though it even says it’s ritual, like detect magic. Yeah, if it’s got the ritual tag and you’ve got it prepared, you should be able to do it as a ritual. Yeah. Like any others, I couldn’t do it. I have to prepare it. Yeah, so like you can’t just cast any wizard spell as a ritual. Gotcha. I think I was going to say the other thing I like about the game is you’ve been quite rules light. Yeah. I think that’s more fun. Well, especially with 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons. If you’ve played other editions, you know how crunchy the game can get. And if you played 3.5, you really learned that. There were rules for just about everything. And, well, you can see by how much more popular 5th edition is that most people don’t like that. Now, I run games in a variety of rules dependents. So I run some games in a system called GURPS, which is one of the most rules-heavy games there is. Yeah, I’ve gone right off GURPS. I’ve been leaning towards more rules-light stuff as the years. So one of the things that makes it easier for me to play games and run games that are rules-light is that I’ve run games with a lot of rules in them. So it’s really easy for me to make a determination based off of other rules that I’ve used before. And it gives me a good idea of what falls in the framework of what would be possible and what wouldn’t. Yeah, that’s cool. Because I think you can see when it’s going to get in the way of the fun. For example, I feel like portent is quite the way they’ve written the rule for that. I don’t like you have to roll it before the roll. Yeah. I think that’s at least the way we’re playing. Too difficult to actually do in the moment. Plus, let’s say, I think it happened in our game. Ipid was going to attack, and I wanted to make sure it succeeded. And I was going to portent that. But he actually got a natural 20. So my portent role would have taken away his fun of having a natural 20. So it’s like, why am I rolling that before he rolls? I feel like rolling it after it makes much more sense. Yeah, and that’s one of those things that I adjust by what game it is, where I definitely have some games where I would rule it, rules as written. But for this setting, having that flexibility for you makes it a better game for you, especially because you haven’t been playing Dungeons and Dragons long enough to intuitively know when you should use the portent. That’s the kind of thing that people who’ve been playing for five, ten or more years would know pretty naturally. But for you, this is your first game. So I think it’s more fair to you as a new player to let you do it after a roll. Yeah, so if there was a GM that I was with that was like, no, it has to be this way, sorry. It would kind of take away a bit of the fun, wouldn’t it? So yeah, I think it’s good to have that flexibility. Yeah. I like to think that the way Dungeons and Dragons is written is that, especially 5th edition, is that the rules are meant to be adjusted as you play. Yeah. And they’re meant to be adjusted for how the table is going. I feel like some people understand that and some people don’t.
Because I read a lot of you comments on YouTube or other areas, and people are arguing about this. Well, this shouldn’t have happened because of this rule. And other people would be going, like, well, yeah, maybe, but in this moment, that rule didn’t make much sense or wasn’t as fun as the way they actually did it. So, forget the rules, man, you know, for a minute. Yeah, so one of the only systems I’ve run where you can reliably count on the rules was GURPS, and that has so many rules that you practically need a college degree in the system to run it well. And it’s if you need to run everything exactly by the rules, you don’t have a very fun game. I think you’d be a good deal for Daggerheart, as you were saying, that it’s like rules-light. That seems like an interesting system. Some of my fun favorite games to run are games that are really crunchy and rules-heavy, like GURPS. And then the games that people have the most fun in are usually the rules-light ones. I like your rules, I really enjoy it. I just wanted to say that, and my last DM, it was just in he was the opposite of you. It was just insane. It was like, oh, you have a rope. What kind of rope is it? How old is the rope? And it was just like a million questions, and I’m like, I don’t know, man. Total realism. Yes. Okay, I’m sorry. Yeah, there are game systems like that if you want to play that game, but DD is not that game system. I’d like to run cyberpunk. That’d be fun. Oh, yeah, cyberpunk is a lot of fun. Do you run any cyberpunk on star playing? Not right now. I might see more interest for it in the future. But let’s get back to the game where we’re at. So the snow is falling heavily, and the giants are preparing with you as you are getting on your mounts to head up into the mountains. You’re going to be following a narrow trail, the winding path of the mountains. As you do, you hear the rumble of thunder in the snow. The ground tremors, and you see another red glow. There it is. As it glows red in the distance, you feel the wind start to blow harder. The air grows colder, and you see a lone fire giant surrounded by cyclopses. And around the cyclopses, you see hill giants. There are many. You see one fire giant, two cyclops, and four hill giants. You can hear them. They’re arguing. They saw the light of the other one activating, and they don’t know why that other one hasn’t started yet. Am I close enough to hear what they’re arguing about? Is it a heated debate? Like somebody’s going to start fighting soon. You can hear their arguing about why didn’t the other beacon start. Some think it was interrupted. Some think they just built it wrong. The only one who’s not arguing is the fire giant. And you just see him staring, watching the horizon in your direction. From what I can tell, they can. They don’t. I relay all that to the group. Scorn, do you have banishment? Do you have banishment? Yes, I do. Because the first time we encountered Cyclops, we banished him. Just thinking about whether we want to do that. I’m not sure. The giants might be a bigger threat here. Also, I can only concentrate on one spell at a time, and my go-to for situations like this is slow. I know it didn’t work well last fight, but I’m probably going to try it again. No, I want you to do slow as well. I think that would be better. I’m going to try and hit them with another one of those acid spheres, which I think if they’re slowed, will be more likely to hit them and also for them to stay in the area. I don’t know if that really matters, actually, to stay in the area, but that ongoing damage is going to happen no matter where they go. Oh, okay, that’s great then. But I think it’s more likely to happen if they’re slowed. So, yes, it’s a good combo. Yeah. Yeah, I think that’s a good way.
See, the two cyclopses seem to agree. But the hill giants disagree with the cyclopses. So we’re at the new symbol or new circle. You guys are a ways away from the new circle watching. Oh, okay. This one is filled with a red light emanating from the circle. Does it look like in more of a state of completion than the last one? This one looks ready. Do you think I should try and fire a spell in there before we get in? I do have a storm spell, a sleet storm. It could. If it’s successful, I’ll put it in the chat. How do I do that? Again, view item. No. A view in chat. Display in chat. What do you think? I can do that. And if you get. If you lead with that one, I won’t be able to target him with slow. So be heavily obscured. Oh, right. Okay. Yeah. You know, after slow? Yeah. Even better. Oh, okay. Because they have to make a deck save or fall prone. Perfect. So slow followed by Sleet Storm would be awesome. Although, never mind. I don’t actually have any slots available. Oh, okay. Well, never mind. I’m sorry. I use them all. Trying to heal if it’s trying to kill the guys. Never mind about that. Next time. Well, I definitely want to do that acid and slow thing. We should definitely do that. I don’t have very much in range, but I have some things that I could use. What have you got? I could use poison spray, which is 30 feet within them. But it causes a decent amount of damage, though. Did it get multiple targets? No. Okay. No, an ice knife. I can hit one and it bursts like I did with the other guy. I could use that as a second level spell. You hear the frost giants talking to each other. We’re going to use the old plan. Yes. Surround one, cut him down, and go to the next. But surround one. Sounds like they’re going to just focus on getting one guy. Yeah. Look at you guys. You want us to take on the fire giant or help with the small ones? Oh, the frost giants are saying that. Okay. Yeah, I was thinking hopefully they could take on the fire giant. Yeah, you guys concentrate on the big guy at the back. We’ll take care of the smaller ones. I think that’ll work. Use your bow if you can. They look at you. No. We want to be right on that fire giant. We shoot him with the bow, he’ll break right through. Okay. Alright. I leave it to you guys then. You distract the small ones and we’ll take down the fire giant. Sounds like a plan. What about it’s probably going to take too much of your power, but you can make people invisible, right, Starling? I have a different plan. It may work better for so many enemies. Okay, shoot, go for it. Okay. I mean, tell us about it. Oh, I see, I see. Yes, I can create a fog with vampiric shades. Well, like spirit guardians. Something like that. Something like that. We’ll be able to see in the vlog. Okay. But they won’t. Not in the beginning. And can Storm. Sorry. Can Scorn still get his slow spell off if you do that? Yes, it doesn’t obscure. Yes. Okay. Oh, that sounds even better then. It sounds amazing. I’m looking forward to seeing it. Okay. Yeah. It’s pretty beefy. So I think it sounds like it’s going to be Starling with a spell, Scorn with a spell, then me with a spell. If we do have a surprise round. But what do you think? Do we have a surprise round? Or it wouldn’t be? I have to be 60 feet for my eyes. I have to be right at the bottom of the statue in order to get some of them with my ice knife. Why don’t we try sneaking up to the statue then? Sounds like a plan. Do you think we are quiet enough to sneak up to the statue? I mean, our friends over here, they seem pretty big. I mean, they don’t need to. They can stay back, I think. We would sneak to the statue and launch some spells. The Hill Giant.
Point towards point towards you, Ash. We’ll sneak around the sides while you sneak up. Okay, that works. Alright. Can we tell Ipid not to go crazy? Aldrich’s going to try and be like, Ipid, wait. Just wait a minute until we do our thing. Then you can go in. Are you following me? Do you get it? Are you understanding me? Please wait a moment. Nods. And then just holds up his sword and shakes it. Alright. Ipid is berserking. He does not care. So are we going to try sneaking up to that statue? Yes. Who’s going first? Yeah. I’ll go first. No, I don’t want to. As you are going up there, you see the frost giant sneaking away, and they disappear in the snow after just a few steps. Neat. Better than I expected. Yeah, so Aldrich’s going to try to sneak up in line with that statue so he’s not seen. Don’t know if we need to roll stealth or something, but he’s going to, that’s why he’s going to try. The storm thickens as you approach. The giants are distracted fighting amongst each other. I think this is our chance. So the order is: I’ll go last with my ice knife. And I think I’m third. And I don’t know if it’s Scorn or Starling first, but you guys will know that. Scorn’s spell has the most range, I think. And he’s going to hang back. Wait until you’re all hid behind the statue. And then he’s going to come up quietly. And as soon as he’s within range, he’ll cast slow. It’s got a range of 120 feet. Okay. So, let me see. The cyclopses are here. 120 feet is off the map. That’s 100 feet there. So, yeah. Let’s say 100 feet. I’ve got to be right there for my ice knife. So as soon as you guys go, I’m going to come around the statue and cast my ice knife. I’d like to hold that. If you can hold off on that, that would be great. My spell is a 40-foot spear, which means I’m going to have to sneak as close as I can before casting it. So it’s centered on you? Yes. Okay. Oh, right. That’s going to make things interesting. Yeah, I’ll go last. What time of the day is it? It’s beginning to fade towards the evening. The sky is growing darker, and everything is illuminated in red. Great. I would like to use a channel divinity so I can fly. Alright. Is flying. Is it concentration? Let me see. I’m trying to find it really quick. Seps the night. No, not that I can tell. So it’s slow, acid, vampires, vampires, and then ice knife. Right? Yes. Alright. Yeah, the flying is not concentration. Okay. Alright. I would like to use that so I can fly. I would like to slowly fly up 30 feet while they’re arguing and slowly kind of move in. Alright, roll stealth. Do you have inspiration or not? No. Not now. Oh, so my inspiration is gone, right? Yeah, they’re good for 10 minutes. So we took a short rest, so they did have been gone. Do you get more? I have more now. Yes. Do I get a damage? I was going to say, why didn’t you inspire her before she goes and does this then? Yeah, if you’re going to fly up there that close and yeah, I’d better drop an inspiration on her first. I think you’re right. So go ahead and roll your parting inspiration on that. Okay. Starling, you’re the one doing it. I’m going to leave it to you. Roll a D8. Okay. Roll good. Yeah, roll good.
Oh, there we go. Got it all. Yeah. You blend seamlessly into the night. In the red illuminated snow, you drift towards the giants who stand unawares. Awesome. Alright, I would like to drift here. Alright. And then I’d like to cast Midnight Veil. Whoa. I haven’t seen that one before. Elias made it just for me. Wow. It’s going to be a DC-15 deck save on all of them. Except the fire giant. Con save? Deck save? Yeah, con save. Is it? It says deck save. It says decks. Well, the initial effect says con save. The initial effect goes to constitution and then it’s decks after. Okay, okay, got it. Okay. One of the cyclops succeeded, and one of the hill giants succeeded. Alright. Okay, that’s. Holy. Whoa. Not too bad. 27 and the two that succeeded take half damage, I believe. Yes. There’s a lot to dispel. I apologize. I’m still earning it. They also don’t have reactions until their next turn, and they have half movement. Okay, this is when I drop slow on them. And so that would stack as they would have quarter movement. Holy okay. And I believe I can get all of them in there. Oh, yeah. Yep, there’s the slow. And it’s a DC-15 wisdom save for all of them. Let’s hope this goes better than last time. Nice. Nice. Well, there’s half of them. Wow. That’s amazing. What the? Okay. One of the hill giants. I’ll take it. Go for your acid. Alright, okay. Yeah, my acid is 150 feet, so that should be able to get in right in the middle. So Aldrich will step out a little bit and point his fingers. Ooh, it looks like I can get all of them. So, I mean, that might be a lot to keep track of. You’ve got like six guys. Some of them might have advantage, some or disadvantage. Well, they’re all minus two for the slow. Except for the one that saved, of course. Yeah. So that’s good. So DC14 decks. Oh, those are some bad rolls. That’s great. Yeah. Yeah. The same one who succeeded on slow succeeded on the acid sphere. Oh, wow. He’s lucky. It’s his lucky day. Yeah, he’s feeling good. He’s pumped. He saw it coming. So, do I do some damage? Yes, roll damage. Wish me luck. 27. Yeah, that’s good. I think it was the same as last time. Shitloaded. I’ll pick it. Although, I mean, I hope I don’t get Starling, but I think she’ll be flying above it. It’s a 20-foot sphere. I think she says she’s flying at 30 feet, maybe. 30 feet, yes. Yeah. Alright. I’m going to cast Ice Knife at the Hill Giant in the middle, hoping to get the other two hill giants in the cycle. That is the one that succeeded on the saves, too, so he has a bit less damage on him. Okay. So Ice Knife at second level. Normal. That hits. And damage for that. Hang on, I guess. See something real quick. Ah.
Okay, so it’s 1d10. And the other guys surrounding him has two to DC uh shit. I think 14 or 12 deck save. Just see if they fail it, they take 3d6 cold damage. My spell DC is low. So they all fail. Oh, wow. Sweet. Alright, then they’ll do not that one. I’m just going to roll it this way. And I take that much cold damage. And then that’ll be my surprise round. Alright, and then you see the two frost giants running in tandem at the fire giant. They each get on one side of him and immediately start swinging with their axes. They managed to hit him with three of the attacks. God damn. You see the fire giant buckle underneath the weight of the blows. And now we need to roll initiative. Okay. I had my… I didn’t know this, but I had my proficiency bonus to my initiative roll. Yeah. So 16. Nope, wait. 23. Alright, and all the giants will go last. Ash, you go first. I gotta goot up a few more feet, and I’m just gonna do ice knife again on the same hill giant. Second level. Never mind. Well, they still have to make their dexterity saving throws. Okay. And they all fail again. So go ahead and roll that damage. And that’s my turn. You see the frost curling around them as they’re hit again and again by the ice knives. See when all the frost giants begin attacking. Aldric is whispering to Ipid to say, go! Whenever it’s his turn, you know. You see the frost giant wailing on the fire giant with its axe. And then you see Ipid dashing in with an unnatural pace. You see him run halfway across and then leap the rest of the distance. And then he immediately starts swinging with his great sword. He hits the hill giant twice. His first attack cuts deep and he smites. You see him in a furious rush hack down one hill giant all by himself, his eyes burning, and you hear him laughing again. Aldric, it is your turn. Okay. He’ll move 30 feet towards those rocks on the side. Casting a flaming sphere. Do I have to keep the range for that? Let’s see. 60-foot range, just about. Yeah. So the one in the middle, to the left of the one he’s just killed, would like to cast a flaming sphere upon him. Also, that big circle is all difficult terrain as long as Starling is holding the spell. Can I see in it? You can see. It shouldn’t affect them, though, right? Oh, yeah. It’s just for non-allies. So the giants have quarter speed and they’re on difficult terrain. So they can move about an eighth, but they normally would. So about five feet. So any creature that ends its turn within five feet of the sphere makes a dexterity saving throw, taking 26 on a fail. So he’s going to do that. He casts that. And he’s wanting… Later on, he’ll try and roll it around all the guys. And I think that’s his turn. Alright, Scorn, it’s your turn. I can’t hear you. You might be muted. I’m muted. Thank you. Well, I was muted. Okay. Let’s see here. I’m going to move up. Two, three, four. No hiding behind the statue this time. I’m going to try and get within 60 feet of the one that saved against all the spells so far. Which is, I believe, this one? Yeah, that one. Okay. Let’s see if I’m close enough. Just.
Just made it. I’m going to upcast dissonant whispers on him. We need to bring him down. So 66 this time. Oh, that’s pretty good. Okay. And wisdom saving throw. Ouch. Nice one. 25. So that’s a nine. Sucks to be him. But he’s not going to get very far. You see him turn and run as fast as he can, making it all of about five feet. Okay. That might be enough to give Ipid an opportunity attack on him. It is. That’s the idea. Oh, no problem. Ipid hits. Oh, good one. You see as Ipid cuts through the back of this other hill giant and it falls to the ground dead in front of him. And his laughter gets louder. And I’ll drop another bard of inspiration on Starling because I’m afraid she might need it. Dude, please be careful up there. I will, Scorn. It sounds really quiet here. You just hear me, me, me, me, me. It’s the thought that counts. And the frost giant begin carving away at the fire giant. Helps with his first attack, but not his second. You see the fire giant bending over, almost broken. And Starling, it is your turn. Yay. Okay, I’m going to float this way just a little bit. Let’s see. You fix this. There we go. Going to attack this guy. And let’s see. I’m going to have one of the vampire shades as a bonus action attack him. He needs to make a DC-15 deck save. He makes okay. He still has to take damage, though. Half damage. And then I would like to cast Guiding Bolt on him. Because frick him. 18. Does that hit? That hits. How do you kill this one? It just burns right through his neck. You see this hill giant collapse. Its neck burned all the way through. It hits the ground, still smoldering. Okay, that’s my turn. See one of the cyclopses take a few steps forward. It makes it about five feet and realizes it’s not going to make it the rest of the way. And it picks up a rock and throws it at Ipid. The rock goes way over Ipid’s head, flying and almost hits scorn. The other Cyclops steps forward and also throws a rock at Ipid. This one manages to nail him with it. You see, 10 feet away is right at the perfect range for a Cyclops to throw a rocket you. You see Ipid take the brunt of it with his shield, but still you hear something cracking. Then you see the fire giant begin attacking the frost giant. Swings twice, brutally attacking. You see the giants trading blows in the distance. You hear their steel ringing out like a hollow bell. Then the one hill giant doesn’t even attempt to move and just throws a rock at Ipid. And he catches Ipid with the rock in the back. And now we’re back to Ash. Sorry. Okay. I’m just going to dash and action surge at the same time to get to here. Take two swings at this hill giant with my sword. With a booming blade for shits and giggles. That hits. Booming blade. And one more time with the sword. Bam! Great. How do you kill this one? Stab him straight in the back.
A black blade just pops out of his chest. Do you have anything else on your turn? I do not. That is literally everything I could have done. And I will be back in like two minutes. Alright. Oh, wait, no, it’s attacking with advantage. That’s horrible. Technical advantage of getting two threes. Uh-huh. Well, it attacks with one hit down onto the frost giant onto the fire giant. You see the fire giant barely withstanding the blow, wavering on its feet. And you see Ipit laughing manically, running up to one of the cyclopses and attacking with his great sword. Aldrich, it is your turn. Aldrich will run towards that statue on the right. And his bonus action, he can move this flaming sphere. So he’s going to try and move it between the two cyclops. Alright. I don’t see how to do that on the thing. Just draw a new sphere. Okay. And back. How would I do that? Let me see. I’m going to have to go back up. How would I draw a new one? Oh, don’t worry about it. We know where it’s at. Yeah, yeah. Then he’s going to toll the dead, I guess. He’s going to toll the dead on the Cyclops on the right-hand side. BC with that. 14 wisdom saving throw. Fails. Cool. So it’s taken damage before, so it should be 2d12, right? Yes, 2d12. Whoop. Put that back. Sorry. I was going to move. I meant to use a distance measuring tool. Jeez. Now, Scorn, it is your turn. Yep. Scorn’s not going to get into the fight this turn, but he casts mirror image and begins walking forward and unlimbering his walking stick, singing a war song as he goes. His mirror image is backing him up in three-part harmony. I’m going to get to about there, and I’m going to send a bardic inspiration over to Ash. I think we’ve got them. I think so too. I’m done. Alright. You see the frost giant cut down the fire giant with two more strokes. And the fire giant falls to the ground dead. A gruesome reminder of the terrifying strength of your allies. Starling, it is your turn. Okay, I’m going to direct my shade to attack the Cyclops on the left. Wow. Wow. Does he make a saving through? Some roll. Damn. Now, what do you do with your action? With my action, I’d like to cast guiding bolts on the same Cyclops. Does that hit? Yes. Okay. Alright, that’s my turn. You see the Cyclopses. They’ve picked a new target, and they’re going to be throwing boulders at Starling. The first one fails to hit you with a boulder. As does the second. And you see, as one boulder lands on your left, the size of your head, and the other lands on your right. These are their turns. They’ll have to do dexterity saving throw for my little flaming ball thing. Yes. The first one fails.
And the second one fails. So it’s 2d6, I believe. Here it’s coming. Ooh, here we go. Max damage 12. You see the Cyclops is shifting one foot to the other as they feel it burning in their feet. And Ash, it is your turn. If. Righty? If I move right here, would I get advantage? Yes. That’s what I’m gonna do. Take two swings with my sword with advantage. Damage for that one. One more swing. I believe that is my turn. Alright. Wait. Why’d you only roll damage once? Those both hit. Oh, the 15 hit? Yeah. Oh. Okay. I’m going to put a booming blade on that one as well. I forgot to say it, but let’s see. Damage. And the booming blade. Extra damage. Roll once. Extra damage. Roll twice. Now that’s my turn. You see this Cyclops horribly wounded from your attack, barely still on its feet. You see one of the frost giants turn away from the dead fire giant. And it attacks the Cyclops. Nice. That’s a lot of dice. God damn. You see it turn around and cleave the Cyclops in half. Yikes. I say giant show off. It smirks at you and then swings at the other Cyclops. It misses. You hear Ibid laughing as he turns towards the other Cyclops, swinging his blade about wildly, smirking as he attacks. Ibid hits with one attack and misses with his second. And Aldric, it is your turn. Yeah, so just one guy left. Yes, just one Cyclops left. So Aldric would like to run up towards him 30 feet as much as he can. Why can’t I do that? You gotta click this box again. There you go. That one. Well, casting Agenazar’s Scorcher at the remaining Cyclops. How do you rotate that ray thing? Anyway, whatever. The ray’s there, and it’s a deck sporting same throw. It fails. Damage. 3d8. Oh, wow. Oh, man. Well, never mind. And you heal bonus action. Make sure the flaming spear is still on him. At least that’ll try and get him. Scorn, it is your turn. Scorn looks over at Aldric. Oh, nice of you to save some for me. And I’ll move up 30 feet and true strike him with my staff as soon as I find it. There it is. Boom. Well, that’s because you’re flanking. Oh, well, we’ll hit him again. Let’s see. Advantage, advantage. Oh, I just roll it again. Just to see what happens. Okay. Alright, roll your damage. I think I hit him. There we go. Okay. That is too much damage. That should be 10 damage, not 15. I want to edit that. It says 2d6 plus 4. Okay. What I’m seeing on in the chat, what I’m seeing on my character sheet are not quite the same. But yeah, 10 points of damage. That’s weird. I think I know how to fix that. See the frost giant come walking up behind the cyclops, brandishing its axe. Hits it once. And again. See it carve off one arm and then cleave deep into its back as the cyclops is barely standing. Yeez. And just darling, it’s your turn. Okay. Bonus action. Gonna go ahead.
And do the shade damage again. Yeah. And I’m going to have to fix that. That’s supposed to be 48. Okay. All right. Is he still standing? How does your shade kill the Cyclops? My shade comes up his back and just sinks its teeth right into its neck. As it sinks to the ground, you hear the cold winds blowing, and it is illuminated with the red glow from the fog and an even brighter red from the portal. You can see where they’re preparing to activate it. Is there a way to deactivate it that we can see? You’re going to figure out how to break it. Yeah, I want to investigate the area. Use any magic knowledge I’ve got. Roll roll Arcana. Well, I’m feeling too tired. I only roll a 10. You know the statues are important, but you’re not sure what else is going on. Did any of you guys see what’s going on here? How are we going to break this up? I’m not feeling it. I’m not getting it at the moment. I was about to say, huh? I’ll roll Arcana, but maybe I don’t need to. Is there still a fire in the middle there? It’s a pile of crushed crystals growing bright red. Starling, you realize you need to disperse the crystals and break down the statues to keep it from being used. I get my shovel out and start scooping the crystals up and tossing them aside. Oh, here, let me help you with that. Scorn goes over to the central area full of crystals, and you cast Thunder Wave on it. Hold on. Send crystals flying in all directions through the air. And the glow slowly fades. You made sure not to get Starling in your wake. Yep. You have a history. Yeah. Something went wrong there. Yeah, I didn’t get it. Basically, these squares here are going to be the ones that it hits. And that should do it. Oh, and that’s my last spell slot, so I done. My very, very last walk over to Grumble and Rumble. They look down at you. Giant, could you throw a boulder at the statues? That might help with the magic and dispersing it. What you’re throwing boulders? Ipid. Yeah, you’re stronger than me, though. You watch as they pick up boulders, taking turns, hurling them first at each other and then the statues. They spend a good five minutes throwing boulders at each other, dodging back and forth, and then they start tearing down the statues with the boulders. Let him have some fun. Ipid has begun to come out of his haze. No, no, no, no. I just wanted to stop by and say hi. I got the way. Oh, man. Well, don’t worry. You killed a bunch of things. Oh. Bad thing? Oh, yeah. Yeah, relatively speaking. Okay. I’m glad that I was in the right hands. I just wanted to check in. Hope everyone was going well. Wanted to meet the new guy. Hi. Hello. Good session, I hope. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Good to hear. Lots of giants. Okay. Sorry, I had to miss out on this, but I’ll be sure to see you guys next week. I hope everything went well. Yes. Thank you for checking in. I definitely missed you. Aw, thank you. You guys have been so normal to my schedule. I was like, man, it’s weird. I’m not playing D and D tonight. All right. Well, I’m going to get back to it. Well, yes, I’m trying to remember to do that. You guys have a good night, all right? You guys take care. Good night. Good night. Take care. He is slammed drunk.
Well, we um Aldric’s gonna, just for fun, pick up his staff and try and hit the statue. You hit the statue, roll a strength check. Yeah. Let’s do this. Strength check. Here we go. Yeah. Four. Oh, oh, hey. You’re like way stronger than scoring. Do you hit the stats or you feel your staff vibrating in your hands? That was fun. I think I’ll leave it to the giants. I’ll go wander over to beside Tharling. You see the giants tearing down the statues, throwing boulders. They’re careful not to hit any of you, but they’re not really careful about the surroundings. As you see boulders going left and right, every direction. Yeah, I still got mirror image up. Just in case. Well, they destroy the things. I’m going to investigate the bodies again, see if anything’s useful. Probably nothing, but you never know. I’ll assist him this time. All right, roll investigation. Investigation. Hey, a little bit. Better than a four. Most of the giants don’t have anything useful on them. Yeah, that’s what I thought. However, when you begin investigating the fire giant, you do find something. Tucked away in his armor. This fire giant has a little ring. Too small for him. It’s just tucked away in his pocket. I pocket the ring. Obviously, I tell everybody I found a ring. We’ll figure it out later. I think Aldrich can identify that. Oh, really? Yeah. He’s good at that sort of thing. There’s any kind of magic. I can have a look and see what’s going on with it. I wonder if he got it for his birthday. Oh. The joke was there. I’m sorry. You’re not sorry. So will you identify the ring now? Yeah, I think we’ve got a bit of time here where I don’t think we’re going to go battling more things at the moment. We’re all out of spells and injured and stuff. So, yeah. I think Aldrich’s going to sit down and take the ring from Ash, get his little tea set out, and just do his own little personal ritual with making tea, fire, keeping warm, and have a look at this ring. As you’re holding the ring, examining it, you feel magic flowing through it. You feel regenerative magic in this ring. It will bolster your strength and build up your health. It’s a ring of regeneration. That’s so good. Okay. Yeah, guys, I know what this is. It can help keep you healthy and strong. Really? Really can. Does it require attunement? Yes. I already have my own little things here. Does anyone… I think. What about Ash? Do you want this? You found it. Yeah, I’ll take it. Did you ever identify the items you found last time? What did we? I probably wrote it down. I’m not sure. I figured I’d say that. We identified the beads, the beads that were fireballs, right? Yeah. Yeah, I got those. We’ll give that scroll to you. Okay. Yeah. I got a question about that scroll. We didn’t actually. I just made an arcana roll to figure out what it was. We didn’t use identify on it. We know it’s got word of recall on it. Would the identify spell tell us what location it’s linked to? Yes. Yeah, we might want to do that at some point. Right. Well, do we want to spend a bit of time here? I can go and do as much as I can. Like, what do you think? You should have some boots, a belt, and gauntlets that need to be identified. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was going to say, it was the boots with the fur. Yeah, the boots with the fur. With the fur. Yeah, so. I mean, he’s going to pull. I don’t know who’s holding onto them, but we’ll pull them out as he’s Aldric’s trying to do this ring. He hands the ring to Ash, and then he’s like, give me those boots. And then, again, his ritual must.
Looking at these, just kind of holding the boots, touching them, looking at them, seeing what’s going on. So, as you hold these boots, you find that these are boots of the winterlands. They make you feel snug and warm. When you’re wearing them, you have resistance to cold damage and can tolerate temperatures of zero degrees Fahrenheit or lower, and you ignore difficult terrain created by ice or snow. They do require attunement. I feel like these would be good for Ipid, but I don’t know if he’s even paying attention to cold and heat just now in his state. So, if anyone wants them, they’re there. I’ll just put them down beside me and I’ll just say if anyone wants them, go for it. And then there’s a belt as well, isn’t there? Yes. Is that magical? Or I’ll have a look at that. See what I can see. As you examine it, you feel the strengths of giants. It’s a belt of hill giant strength. While wearing the belt, your strength is 21. Aldric starts to smile and fantasize about being a warrior for a moment. He shakes his head and says, probably not. Guys, this will make you stronger. Again, it could be. Oh, ring for that belt. This ring, it regenerates you. Yeah. Right, I’ll give you the belt. What? You have the gauntlets. I didn’t write that down. What’s the gauntlets? You identify them. They are gauntlets of ogre power. While you’re wearing them, your strength is 19. Wow. Scorn? What do you think? You sometimes hit people with a staff. Yeah, but that’s magic. That’s a true strike spell. I don’t use strength for that anyway. We got two warriors here. Maybe one of them should have the one of them should have the gauntlets. I’ll take the belt and I’ll give the ring to whoever wants it. I don’t want to be greedy. I just met you guys. Can we get it? It’s always getting hurt. You know? Yeah, that’s a good point. I don’t get hurt very often. So. Okay. If one of the healers has the ring, that’s like extra insurance against losing a healer, which in turn keeps everybody else alive. True. So that would be my suggestion. I like that idea. Sorry? Do you guys want to give Ipid the ring? Starling, you’re fine with that? Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine with that. Alright, as a thing, Aldric would like to stand up and walk towards Ipid and trying to catch his attention. And you’ll hold the ring. We won! Oh, you can talk. Right. I’ll talk to you later, but for now, I think you might need this. And then I’ll hold out the ring. See him take the ring and slip it onto his finger. How many. Is that an attunement thing? It is. Does Ipid have other attunement items? Let me check. Warren, do you want the boots with the fur? No, they don’t exactly go with my cloak. Yeah, sure. Okay. Starling didn’t get anything. I feel bad. It’s okay. I don’t need anything. Okay. I also noted down four red potions with giant magic. Yes. I don’t know if they require identification, but Aldric will pull them out and look at them and say, oh, remember, we got this. Still got this. If I had them, I think I had them. Yes, you did. Those are four potions of growth. So when you drink the potion, you gain the enlarge effects, so you become one size larger for 10 minutes with no concentration. Does that grant you any strength or anything? Yes. Does it? Let me pull up the exact effects. So you increase by one category, size category. You have advantage on strength checks and strength saving throws, and your attacks deal 1d4 extra damage. For how long? 10 minutes. Sounds like a warriors thing to me. Ash, how do you feel about these?
Got these last time. I think it was before we met you. So, how do you feel about these? I’ll take one. Sure. Give one to Ipet. I noted down four. So, does anyone else want one? Yeah, I might want to use one sometime. More than enough. Glad I could help you guys out. Thank you for your help. Yeah, I wasn’t sure if we could trust you, but after seeing that battle or two, I think, yeah, we can. The idea of using the potion of growth while you have the belt of hill giant strength on is kind of terrifying. Yeah, so did you take one? You can just basically be like, I feel like knocking down this wall. Did you take one of the potions, Ash? Or you didn’t? Just one. Oh, yeah, yeah. So I think I would give one to Ipet, one to Ash, one to Scorn Starling. I’m not very ticket. Yeah, I’m not very strong. I don’t need it. Thank you, Aldric. You’re welcome. That’s all the stuff, I think. All right. Is there anything else you’d like to wrap up before the end of the session? I just want to clarify who took the boots. Holy fuck. I think that’s all the stuff. I have a plus eight to my attack. God damn. That is insane. What does Ash do when he puts on the belt? Do we see anything? Do we see him do anything? Get a little buffer. One of the giants looks down at you. You want to play Boulder tag? Of course. They laugh as they chuck a boulder at your head. I catch it. Try to catch it. That’s going to be it for me. That was awesome. Thank you, guys. Thank you, guys. I look forward to seeing you next week. Yeah. Next week is 4th of July weekend. Does anyone have a conflict? I don’t. I’m good. I’m good. I’m good. I’m in Taiwan. Okay, you got me there. Oh, I wanted to say before you go, I think is there like a natural U.S. state rivalry that just comes out of people? Because I always hear you guys saying what state you’re in, and you’re like, ah, that state. Ah, this is a story. Yeah, it’s true. It just depends on the person. Yeah. The people who are worst about it, in my opinion, are the people from Texas. Yes. Yes. I think everybody universally hates Ohio, though. Yeah, I hate Ohio. I don’t know. There’s no… I’m in Missouri. We don’t really have a state that we hate, but the Denver Broncos kind of suck. Is it like that kind of friendly rivalry that people will have sometimes? Yeah, except for the friendly part. Yeah, not really friendly all the time. More like, I hate you. In a serious way. Chiefs and Broncos have some bad blood. Yeah. Like, sometimes the fans start shooting at each other, kind of bad blood. That’s also not quite that bad, but yeah. The beef is real. Especially when you’re in-state, like Pennsylvania has Pittsburgh, Steelers, and Philadelphia. All right. Y’all have a good night. I am out. All right. You guys have a good night. Good night, everyone. It’s been fun. Thank you.
